Antique Singer Sewing Machine

  

By looking at the pictures you know as much as I do. When I turn the pulley the rest of the workings do not move, they budge and try but there is resistance and then the pulley spins free. I don't know anything about these. Base was long gone when I recovered this out of a clean out so I know nothing about it's history or what could be wrong with it.
