This is a great barn find. An old Redeye which was lost under bales of hay in a loft, probably hasn't been used in ages.
The treadle base was pretty well busted up, but thankfully the sewing machine was covered with a blanket. The first time I saw it I was amazed at how good of condition it was in, and I decided to convert it over to electric, even adding a light on the back. It is completely and totally functional, and if you so desire, you could convert it back to a treadle in about 5 minutes. I found a white motor, which I like the contrast between the machines predominantly black exterior, put on a new belt, and away she goes!
Several bobbins come along, and I even mounted the foot pedal on a block of wood, plus, it will come to you in a sewing machine case bottom, so you can set it up and sew as soon as it gets there, or discard the bottom case and put it into a cabinet. It sews extremely well for its age, just take a look at the 3 swatches I made. Regular material, canvas and leather. It is a pretty amazing machine.
I have lubed up every moving part including the hook and shuttle, and bobbin winder, which I tested, and even the motor bearings. For not having run in decades, it surprisingly sews super smooth.
I want someone to have this and enjoy it. This was probably someones pride and joy, back in the day, and just imagine how many quilts it sewed, how many clothes were made for the kids, how many patches and darned socks it repaired. This Redeye deserves to be someones baby again, it deserves to sew like it used to, and it deserves to be in someones home who really respects and loves this thing. It will sew an incredibly tight stitch through almost anything you can get under the needle, and it will look good doing it. That's why I got it, to make someone happy, to give someone an amazing X-Mas present, perhaps just like it was all those years ago.
So get it, sew on it, and make yourself smile with every stitch. That's what this Singer Redeye is all about!
